Career Highlights:

Demong will be competing in his fifth Olympics, and although the bar has been raised after a historic performance at the 2010 Games, duplicating that success seems unlikely. Demong became the first American to earn Olympic gold in the Nordic combined when he won the 10km individual large hill. He also skied the anchor leg of the United States’ silver medal-winning 4x5km relay team. Making his Vancouver Games even more memorable, Demong proposed to his girlfriend the night he won gold and was also selected by his countrymen as America’s flag bearer at the closing ceremonies. Prior to Vancouver, Demong’s best individual showing at the Olympics came in 2002, when he finished 14th in the sprint. He was also part of the US’ fourth-place finish in the team relay at that year’s Olympics. Following his amazing showing at the 2010 Games, Demong took a brief break from competitive skiing and spent time with his second love - bike racing. He has competed in several multi-day bike races as a way to build endurance and fulfill his competitive nature. Since returning to skiing, Demong anchored the normal hill relay team to the bronze medal at the 2013 world championships. It was the first Nordic combined medal for an American relay team at the world championships. Demong’s 2013 got off to a slow start as he battled pertussis - commonly referred to as whooping cough - and defending his gold and improving on the second-place finish in the relay seem doubtful. He finished outside the top 30 in the final 2013 World Cup standings. Demong has four medals from world championships and 21 World Cup podiums, including nine wins, with none coming this past year.
