Snapshot: Purdy was the definition of consistency at Iowa State, starting 46 games over the past four seasons. He took over the starting job as a true freshman and earned Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors. He was an ascending producer as a sophomore but decided to stay in school for 2021 after failing to maintain growth as a junior (although he was first-team all-conference in 2020). He's still a quality prospect who could become a backup in the league, but his stock isn't as hot as it used to be in past seasons. Passed for 12,710 yards and 81 touchdowns at Iowa State.

Strengths: Release is snappy and efficient regardless of his throwing platform. Big enough to run without getting beat up. Accuracy is reliable in the short and intermediate areas of the field. Trusts his receivers and will give them shots in contested situations. Keeps his eyes downfield until the clock strikes midnight. Able to adjust his arm slot to get around pass-rushers. Tough player who won't back down when getting beat up. Arm talent is adequate to attack every level of the field.

Weaknesses: Lapses in anticipation lead to passes arriving too late. Internal clock isn't broken, but it needs some tinkering. Late to recognize and adapt to pressure. Not a natural play extender and will struggle in a hectic pocket. Scrambling isn't quick enough to get away from defensive ends.

Pro comparison: Brandon Allen, Bengals -- After bouncing around from team to team for a few years, Allen finally found his home in Cincinnati. Despite modest arm talent and athleticism, he managed to hold down the fort as a backup in 2020. Purdy's career projects to follow a similar arc; he's a roster quarterback with a reasonably high floor.
