Scouting Report

Overview

Collins saw minimal action in his true freshman season in 2017 but became a full-time starter as a sophomore. He collected a combined 21 starts in 2018 and 2019, earning honorable mention all-conference honors in both seasons. He decided to skip his senior season due to the pandemic, finishing his Michigan career with 78 catches for 1,388 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Analysis

Strengths: Collins impressed at the Senior Bowl with his size, athleticism and ability to make contested catches. He helped his cause in Mobile by showing big-play traits on vertical routes and in red-zone situations. Shows a variety of footwork in his release, which will keep defensive backs on their toes. His craftsmanship when setting up his routes stands out. He brings sufficient effort, and strength as a blocker.

Weaknesses: While his speed is sufficient for a big man, he isn't going to consistently threaten to gain separation downfield, forcing him to be precise with his body control, physicality and hands. The separation issue is perhaps more of a concern when it comes to intermediate routes. His focus doesn't seem to be an issue, but he struggles to keep control through contact.

Pro comparison: Courtland Sutton, Broncos -- Sutton's NFL success isn't a surprise given his combination of athleticism and size. Collins brings a similar striding style, but he's quicker with his footwork and body language as a route-runner.
