Scouting Report

Overview

Ausbon sat out 2020 due to the pandemic, but there is plenty of tape on him. He made 147 receptions for 1,818 yards and eight touchdowns in 35 career games, leading the Aggies in catches and receiving yards in 2019, when he also served as team captain.

Analysis

Strengths: Ausbon is a densely built receiver with ideal size for working outside, and he backs it up with his play strength. He has quick feet for his size, and his urgency as a route-runner has some nice moments. He'll make clean changes of direction and create separation at a good rate out of his breaks. His hands are active when dealing with contact along his routes, and he does a good job of clearing himself against press coverage.

Weaknesses: While he isn't a bad athlete for his size, he doesn't have ideal agility and lateral movement skills to be working in the slot. Ausbon will find most of his success when he can win with physicality, although his ability to consistently win at contested catch points isn't always evident. He isn't going to threaten much with speed downfield.

Pro comparison: Noah Brown, Cowboys -- Brown's size, hands, and tough blocking have allowed him to find success as a pro. Ausbon is a bit more physical along his routes than Brown was coming out of college, and he should project easier early in his career.
