Scouting Report

OVERVIEW
Barnes has a chance at cracking the top five because of his athleticism and defensive ability.
He matched up well with other players in his one college season at Florida State simply because he was often the best athlete on the floor. Barnes started just seven of his 24 games and relished the bench role.
Barnes, who turns 20 on Aug. 1, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year and is the fourth one-and-done player in Florida State history.
Barnes' offensive game isn't NBA-ready but scouts feel it will develop over time. He averaged 10.3 points per game and connected on just 11 of 40 (27.5 percent) of his 3-point attempts while seeing most of his action at guard for the Seminoles.
Overall, the 6-foot-8 Barnes shot 50.3 percent from the field as he excelled at using his athleticism to get layups or short-range baskets.
Free-throw shooting was an issue as Barnes made just 62.1 percent of his attempts.
But Barnes' defense will make him a coveted player on draft night. He had 35 steals and isn't afraid to dig in and make the player he is guarding feel uncomfortable.
Expect Barnes to hear his name called early and then go on to enjoy a long NBA career.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Barnes will always play hard, and his competitiveness stood out early in his freshman season. He reportedly has a 7-foot-2 wingspan and could be effective at obstructing the vision of opponents in late-game, in-bounds situations. The Seminoles used him to guard both backcourt players and frontcourt players and that type of versatility can come in handy.
Negatives: His offensive game needs a lot of work, particularly his outside shooting. He may have trouble with bigger, bulkier NBA players in the paint.
