Scouting Report

OVERVIEW
Jones was not a world beater at Texas, but whichever NBA team selects him will be making their decision based on future potential rather than past production. As a sophomore last season, he averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds, which was better than his freshman production (3.6 points, 3.2 rebounds) but not exactly dominant.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Jones' production might not be impressive on paper, but his playing style fits perfectly with the modern NBA. He has terrific size at 6-11 but does not sacrifice quickness, as he can move his feet and create plays as if he were a perimeter player. Jones has only a few years of basketball experience under his belt, so a team looking for a high-risk, high-reward choice in Round 1 could be wise to take a chance on Jones.
Negatives: Sometimes, NBA teams can become so enamored with physical traits that they do not put enough stock into the actual game film of a particular prospect. Jones' potential is tantalizing, but he is far from a sure thing to excel at the next level. Even if he does, it could take a few years, and it could be hard for some teams to justify a high first-round pick on a player who likely still needs a couple years of development.
