Franz Wagner

Scouting Report

Wagner projects as a first-round pick after a pair of impactful seasons with Michigan. He averaged 12.5 points and 6.5 points as a sophomore, slightly up from his averages of 11.6 points and 5.6 points as a freshman. He improved his overall shooting from 45.2 percent to 47.7 percent, and he improved his 3-point shooting from 31.1 percent to 34.3 percent.
Positives: Wagner is the younger brother of Moritz Wagner, who now plays in the NBA, but the brothers' games are not the same. The younger Wagner projects as a "3 and D" player who potentially can blossom into a solid wing player. Those can be hard to find. He has the size and skills to fit in well, and scouts like his passing ability.
Negatives: The biggest question with Wagner comes down to his jump shot - namely, how consistent it can be. Can he build upon his college averages from long distance, where he made a little more than one-third of his attempts last season? He is a good athlete but not necessarily a great one, and he might turn out to be a bench contributor rather than a powerful starter over the coming years.
