| OVERVIEW |
| Garza returned for his senior season because NBA talent evaluators weren't high on him and all he did was become the consensus national player of the year for Iowa. |
| And that did absolutely nothing to raise his stock despite averages of 24.1 rebounds and 8.7 rebounds and superb 44 percent shooting from 3-point range. |
| So Garza went to work on his frame and he dropped 22 pounds from his listed Iowa weight of 265. He said he worked with a dietitian to help get in better shape. |
| Still, Garza rates as nothing better than a middle second-round choice despite his lengthy list of exploits. Among those are finishing his career at Iowa's all-time leading scorer at 2,306 career points. |
| The 3-point shooting should catch a team's attention, as should Garza's ability to score around the basket and in the post. |
| But the 22-year-old Garza isn't a great athlete and his mobility is a problem. He doesn't defend well if matched up against a faster player and there will be a lot of them in the NBA. |
| Garza will play a role for an NBA team but he won't be the big-time star he was in college. |
| ANALYSIS |
| Positives: Can score, score and score and is a solid shooter from 3-point range. He is a strong rebounder who works hard to find the right positioning. Holds his own as a defender down in the low post. |
| Negatives: Consistently been downgraded as an NBA prospect, often due to not being a great athlete. There are questions about whether he will be able to guard NBA big men, especially athletic, spry ones. His conditioning has been viewed as an issue but he did make strides this offseason. |
