Wofford's Pall a first-round selection in CFL draft

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Homeward-bound.

Wofford College defensive end Ameet Pall was selected by the Calgary Stampeders with the fifth overall pick of the first round in the CFL Canadian Draft on Thursday.

The 6-foot, 245-pound Pall hails from Montreal, Quebec.

As a junior in 2010, he led the Southern Conference with 12.5 sacks and 22.5 tackles for loss and was the co-runner-up for the Buck Buchanan Award in the Football Championship Subdivision.

While often facing double teams as a senior, Pall was limited to 32 tackles, three sacks and eight tackles for loss.

In his career, he ranked fifth in Wofford history with 45 career tackles for loss and third in career sacks with 23.

Pall had drawn a No. 7 overall ranking from the CFL Scouting Bureau.

The Stampeders later selected Jacksonville University 6-5, 300-pound offensive lineman Billy Peach in the third round with the 19th overall pick. He is a native of Kingston.

Two picks later, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected Georgia State defensive end Christo Bilukidi at No. 21 overall.

The 6-5, 307-pound Bilukidi, from Ottawa, was considered a first-round selection for the CFL until the Oakland Raiders selected him in the sixth round of the NFL Draft last Saturday. He plans to pursue an NFL career first.

In the fourth round, the Toronto Argonauts picked Northern Colorado's Herve Tonye-Tonye, a 6-1, 225-pound linebacker from Montreal, at No. 24.

The seven-round draft finished with 45 selections.
