Quick-Steed match-up highlights FCS weekend
Greenville, SC (Sports Network) - The best showdown in the FCS on Saturday may not involve one team versus another.
It's the marquee match-up within the Appalachian State at Furman game.
Appalachian State wide receiver Brian Quick and Furman cornerback Ryan Steed are expected to be matched against each other in the meeting of Southern Conference rivals. The two seniors could be the first offensive and defensive players in the FCS to be selected in the 2012 NFL Draft.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Quick scored the game-winning touchdown as Appalachian State beat then-No. 1 Georgia Southern last week. He enters Saturday's game just 68 yards shy of the Mountaineers' all-time career receiving yardage record of 3,124, set by Rick Beasley from 1978-80.
Steed collected his 12th career interception against Chattanooga last Saturday. The instinctive 5-foot-11, 188-pound standout also has 24 pass breakups and 153 tackles in his career.
Appalachian State is 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the SoCon. Furman is 5-3 and 4-2.
