NCAA Game Summary - Temple at Penn State

University Park, PA (Sports Network) - Matt McGloin threw for a career-high 318 yards and a touchdown as the Penn State Nittany Lions bested instate rival Temple, 24-13, at Beaver Stadium.
McGloin completed 24 of his 36 pass attempts and also ran for a pair of touchdowns for Penn State (2-2). Zach Zwinak (94 yards) and Michael Zordich (75) both had strong games on the ground, while Allen Robinson caught five passes for 82 yards and a score.
Chris Coyer provided the majority of the offense for the Owls (1-2) with 124 yards passing and 64 yards on the ground. Coyer completed 13-of-26 pass attempts and also threw a touchdown, but was sacked three times on the afternoon.
Although they piled up 141 yards in the first quarter, the Nittany Lions didn't score until there were just six seconds left in the period, when McGloin connected with Robinson for a 41-yard touchdown pass.
Temple then drove the ball to the Nittany Lions' seven-yard line but was forced to settle for a 33-yard field goal by Brandon McManus.
The second quarter was again filled with missed opportunities for PSU until McGloin pounded the ball into the end zone from a yard out just before halftime to push the Nittany Lions' lead to 14-3.
McGloin scored on the ground again, this time from two yards out, to stretch the Nittany Lions' lead to 21-3 late in the third quarter.
A 42-yard field goal by McManus ended the Owls' scoring drought with 1:37 left in the frame.
Sam Ficken added a 21-yard field goal for Penn State near the end of the fourth quarter.
Matt Brown caught a one-yard touchdown pass from Coyer with 1:33 remaining but it simply wasn't enough for the Owls.
Penn State, which has now beaten the Owls in 23 straight meetings, outgained Temple by a 491-237 margin. The Owls were just 3-of-12 on third down and had only 13 first downs to 27 by the Nittany Lions.
