NCAA Game Summary - Arkansas at Texas A&M

(Saturday, September 29)

Final Score: Texas A&M 58, Arkansas 10

College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Redshirt freshman Johnny Manziel threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Texas A&M Aggies won their first game as a member of the SEC with a 58-10 route over the Arkansas Razorbacks at Kyle Field.

Manziel was terrific all afternoon for the Aggies (3-1, 1-1 SEC), completing 29-of-38 passes for 453 yards. He also ran for 104 yards on 14 carries. Ryan Swope reeled in five passes for 141 yards and a touchdown, while Thomas Johnson added five catches for 108 yards.

Arkansas (1-4, 0-2) quarterback Tyler Wilson was held in check by the Aggies defense, connecting on just 29-of-59 passes for 373 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Cobi Hamilton, who broke the SEC record for receiving yards last week with 303, had 11 receptions for 162 yards, but was kept out of the end zone. Knile Davis rushed for 84 yards on 18 carries and caught the lone Razorback touchdown.

Manziel was 5-for-5 on the Aggies first possession, which ended in a four-yard Mike Evans touchdown catch. Arkansas answered when Davis took a screen pass 64 yards to the end zone, beating a couple of A&M defenders in the process.

Arkansas kicker Zach Hocker chipped in a 26-yard field goal late in the first quarter to give the Razorbacks a 10-7 lead. From that moment on, A&M would score 51 unanswered points.

Consecutive Taylor Bertolet field goals gave the Aggies the lead early in the second quarter. Steven Terrell, who had two interceptions on the day, then picked off Wilson in A&M territory and returned the ball to the 50-yard line to give the Aggies good field position. Three plays later, Manziel connected with Ben Malena for an 11-yard touchdown.

After an Arkansas punt, Manziel found Swope, who fooled the defense with an impressive double move, for an 80-yard score. A&M led 27-10 at the half.

A&M's defense made its mark as Tramain Jacobs scored on a 28-yard fumble return in the third period. Christine Michael, Trey Williams and Manziel added second half touchdown runs as well for the Aggies, who outgained Arkansas 716 to 515 despite running 19 fewer plays.

Arkansas still leads the all-time series over A&M, 41-25-3.
