GAME NOTES: The Hofstra Pride have made the trek to Atlanta for a Colonial Athletic Association clash with the Georgia State Panthers.

With their 65-56 win on the road over UNC-Wilmington on Saturday afternoon, the Pride snapped a seven-game losing streak. It also gave Hofstra its first conference win of the season.

After falling to Towson in overtime on Saturday, 90-82, the Panthers are hoping to stop a two-game skid. They are 2-2 in their last four contests.

From a series standpoint, Hofstra has won nine of the previous 12 meetings with Georgia State.

Stevie Mejia had a game-high 18 points as the Pride rallied for a nine-point win over the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks. Stephen Nwaukoni scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Taran Buie added 10 points in the victory. Hofstra struggled out of the gate, shooting just 30.8 percent from the floor in the first half as the Seahawks built a 31-21 halftime lead. After intermission, Hofstra put together runs of 10-0 and 16-3 to take the lead and finally put a mark in the win column in conference play. Freshman forward Jordan Allen had seven steals for the Pride, falling just one shy of the single-game school record.

The Pride are the lowest scoring (59.5 ppg) and worst shooting team from the field (.387) in the CAA, and among the 25 worst in the country. Defense hasn't exactly been a strength either with the Pride allowing 67.8 ppg on 43.9 percent shooting. Buie (14.0 ppg) and Mejia (10.8 ppg, 4.0 apg) run the Pride from their spots in the backcourt, and they are the team's top two offensive options. Mejia is also the third-best distributor in the league, but has had very few players to get the ball to as no one else on the roster nets more than eight points per game. Nwaukoni (7.0 ppg, 7.9 rpg) doesn't add much offensively, but he is a strong rebounder.

Devonta White hit a pair of free throws with 0.6 seconds left in regulation to force an extra session, but the Panthers fell in overtime to Towson this past Saturday at the GSU Sports Arena. Manny Atkins tied his career high with 26 points, and White scored a season-high 22. Towson netted the first five points of overtime, and the Panthers were unable to come back again. Towson shot 56.4 percent for the game, including 13 three-pointers on 21 tries, while Georgia State managed 42.6 percent from the field and was outrebounded, 37-32. R.J. Hunter added 15 points, but was just 1-of-9 from beyond the arc. Senior James Vincent finished with six points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots

Hunter is making a great case for the Colonial Athletic Association's Rookie of the Year by putting up impressive numbers, leading the Panthers in scoring with 17.7 ppg and shooting just over 45.0 percent from the field, which includes a near-40 percent effort from 3-point range. Hunter is just one of five freshmen in the nation currently averaging at least 17.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg. White adds 14.2 ppg, while Atkins scores 13.8 ppg and grabs 6.3 rpg. He is currently the CAA leader in 3-point shooting percentage at .432. As a unit, the Panthers are the second-best 3-point shooting team in the league at 36.5 percent, but are second-worst in 3-point defense, allowing 36.6 percent.

Although they snapped a seven-game skid on Saturday, the Pride is still a team struggling at both ends of the court. Expect the Panthers to stop their losing streak and secure a hard-fought home victory.
