GAMES NOTES: College basketball will be featured on the Vegas Strip this holiday weekend including a matchup between the San Diego Toreros and the Oregon State Beavers at the MGM Grand Garden Arena as part of the Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.

The Toreros have had a week off since falling to crosstown rival San Diego State (72-56) last Saturday. That defeat broke a three-game winning streak for San Diego and evened the Toreros' record at 6-6 overall. Though San Diego has yet to play a neutral site game, when not at home the Toreros are just 1-4. San Diego will play James Madison in the second day of the event.

The Beavers have been red hot of late with wins in each of their last four games and six of their last seven. The Beavers' only loss during that stretch was a six-point defeat on the road against No. 9 Kansas. Oregon State is now 8-2 overall after a 69-53 rout of Howard on Thursday. Oregon State took part in a pair of neutral site games during the 2K Sports Classic and split those decisions.

There have been two previous meetings between these programs. Those two matchups were split with the home team victorious each time, including Oregon State's 65-56 win in Corvallis last year.

Even fueled by the motivation of a rivalry game, San Diego was no match for the 18th-ranked Aztecs. The Toreros shot at just a 38.3 percent from the field and were outscored 16-5 from the free throw line. Only five players managed to score for the Toreros paced by Ken Rancifer, who netted 16 points to go with seven points.

San Diego shoots at a relatively solid 45.8 percent from the field and scores a respectable 66.7 percent from the field. On the defensive end the Toreros are allowing teams to net 63.2 points on average, while shooting at a 42.4 percent clip. Despite being the ninth best rebounding team in the WCC (32.2 ppg) the Toreros have just a -0.3 margin on the boards. Johnny Dee (14.5 ppg) powers the offense in scoring by shooting at a stellar rate from beyond the arc (43.5 percent). Though there are no other double-figure scorers, Rancifer (9.9 ppg) and Christopher Anderson (9.8 ppg, 6.2 apg) are capable, while Anderson ranks third in the WCC in assists.

Although it did not have the same type of offensive performance it is used to, Oregon State was still able to easily get past Howard on Wednesday. The Beavers hit on 43.8 percent of their shots from the field and limited Howard to 38.5 percent shooting, while doubling the Bison up from the free-throw line (22-11). Eric Moreland had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Beavers are netting 77.7 ppg, while shooting a solid 46.1 percent of their shots. The Beavers also control the glass well (40.6 rpg) leading the Pac-12 on the boards. Four different players are scoring in double figures for the Beavers, led by Roberto Nelson (16.1 ppg) and Devon Collier (15.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg). Ahmad Starks (12.8 ppg) is deadly from beyond the arc and Moreland (9.5 ppg, 10.6 rpg) is always a double-double threat. All that offense has come without Angus Brandt (11.2 ppg), sidelined for the year with an ACL tear.

There is just too much talent, especially on the offensive side of the ball from Oregon State for San Diego to handle in this game.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Oregon State 79, San Diego 68
