GAME NOTES: Perfect at home through four games, the Iowa State Cyclones attempt to snap a two-game slide overall on Saturday as the team hosts the BYU Cougars in non-conference action at Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones began the 2012-13 campaign with four straight home dates, winning them all against Southern University, Alabama A&M, Campbell and North Carolina A&T. But then the schedule got a bit tougher and the team had to hit the road, subsequently losing to Cincinnati (78-70) and UNLV (82-70) as part of the Global Sports Classic in Las Vegas.

As for the Cougars, they were just in action on Wednesday in Salt Lake City where they crushed the Montana Grizzlies in an 85-60 final at EnergySolutions Arena. The victory was the third in a row for BYU and the team's first in three tries away from the Marriott Center in Provo.

In a series that dates back to 1931, Iowa State has taken all four of the previous meetings against the Cougars, including a 77-71 final in the most recent encounter back in 2000.

Brandon Davies recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds as he helped guide the BYU Cougars to the 25-poin win over the Montana Grizzlies in non-conference action in Salt Lake City. Davies, who didn't commit a single personal foul on the night, added six assists, four steals and a couple of blocked shots for the Cougars in the triumph. Tyler Haws accounted for 18 points and Josh Sharp 13 to go along with eight boards. In addition to holding the Grizzlies to just 38.8 percent shooting from the floor for the game, BYU also forced 17 turnovers, which the squad traded in for 26 points. Haws, who saw his string of consecutive games with at least 20 points snapped, continues to pace the team in scoring overall with 22.6 ppg, thanks in large part to his incredible 92.3 percent accuracy at the free-throw line. Davies checks in with 18.6 ppg, 7.7 rpg and 13 blocked shots, adding 22 assists which tied him for second-most on the roster.

Despite shooting just 32.6 percent from the floor in the first half against nationally-ranked UNLV last weekend, the Cyclones remaining close at the break before falling behind by double digits. For the game, ISU made good on only 33.3 percent from the floor, but the real key stat saw the visitors being outscored at the free-throw line by a margin of 28-8. Will Clyburn kept things interesting as he posted a huge double-double for the visitors with 21 points and 15 rebounds, adding four assists as well in the setback. Melvin Ejim had a double-double of his own with 10 points and 11 boards and Tyrus McGee contributed 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting behind the three-point line off the bench. McGee, the leading scorer for the program in four straight outings leading up to the UNLV meeting, is now tied for the overall scoring lead with Clyburn at 14.8 ppg, the former handling the action behind the three-point line with 47.4 percent accuracy and the latter battling for 9.2 rpg to help give the group a massive 14.0 rpg advantage over the competition.

As long as Davies can again stay out of foul trouble and be a force in the paint, the Cougars should be in good shape to earn the victory.
