Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - DeAndre Kane drained two key foul shots with 21 seconds left in the game to propel the Marshall Thundering Herd to a 61-58 decision over the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks in a non-conference bout at the Cam Henderson Center.

Kane scored a team-high 16 points to go with five assists and four steals for the Thundering Herd (5-3). Nigel Spikes recorded the games only double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Elijah Pittman and D.D. Scarver scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Craig Ponder recorded a game-high 26 points, but was the only player to score in double-figures for UNC-Wilmington (3-4), which struggled to find success on the offensive end. Keith Rendleman contributed nine points and six boards after playing only 19 minutes due to foul trouble.

The first half ended in a 28-28 after DeAndre Kane recorded a steal to set up a dunk with eight seconds left. The Seahawks played an impressive defensive half as they forced 10 turnovers and recording six steals. However, UNCW managed to make only 37.5 percent of its field goal attempts in the opening half.

Despite UNC-Wilmington heating up to shoot an impressive 58.3 percent from the floor in the second half, their 19 fouls allowed 16 points at the free-throw line for Marshall. The Herd managed to pull out the victory despite making only 1-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes.

Marshall outrebounded UNC-Wilmington 39-30, and held them to only 3-of-12 shooting behind the three-point line in the contest.
