Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Durand Scott tallied 20 points, five assists, and three steals as the Miami-Florida Hurricanes downed the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, 73-58, in the first round of the Diamond Head Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Scott drained 4-of-8 from 3-point range for Miami (8-1), which extended its winning streak to seven games. Julian Gamble had double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Shane Larkin and Trey McKinney Jones scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
For Hawaii (5-4), Brandon Jawato was the only player to score in double figures with 12 points.
It was a low-scoring affair in the first half, with Miami escaping the frame with a 22-21 advantage.
The Hurricanes came out firing at the start of the second half with a 14-5 run, and the Warriors never got closer than seven points of the lead from that point forward.
Miami shot 48.2 percent from the field on the night, while Hawaii made good on just 40 percent of its attempts from the floor.
Miami advances to play Arizona in semifinals on Sunday, while Hawaii will take on East Tennessee State in a consolation matchup.
