(Saturday, December 22)
Final Score: Fairfield 60, Saint Joseph's 57
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - A 3-pointer by Derek Needham with 16 seconds remaining gave the lead back to Fairfield as the Stags held on for the 60-57 win against the Saint Joseph's Hawks in non-conference action at Hagan Arena.
Needham, who also sank a late free throw in the meeting, scored a game-high 24 points for the Stags (8-5) as they won their fourth straight outing. Also scoring in double figures for Fairfield was Amadou Sidibe who came up a rebound shy of recording a double-double as he tallied 10 points.
The Hawks (5-4) were paced by Ronald Roberts who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Langston Galloway and C.J. Aiken with 15 and 13 points, respectively, as the team bowed for the second time in as many games.
Saint Joseph's held an early three-point lead in the meeting, but the squad shot just 30.0 percent from the floor in the first half and missed all eight opportunities on the perimeter, which allowed the visitors to take a slim 28-27 advantage at the break.
With the game tied 56-56 late in the second half, Chris Wilson made 1-of-2 at the free-throw line with 30 seconds left in order to give the Hawks a one- point lead, but that was erased by Needham's triple and subsequent free throw down the stretch.
In a game that featured seven ties and 14 lead changes, the Hawks outscored Fairfield at the charity stripe, 19-6, but ended up shooting only 33.3 percent from the floor overall.
