Serbs settle for 3-2 Davis Cup win against Belgium|
Charleroi, Belgium (Sports Network) - Host Belgium won a pair of dead rubbers
on Sunday, as Serbia exited Charleroi with a 3-2 victory in a best-of-five
opening-round Davis Cup tie.
David Goffin topped Serbian fill-in Boris Pashanski 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 and
Steve Darcis bested another Serbian replacement, Nenad Zimonjic, 6-2, 6-4 to
wrap up the weekend set.
On Saturday, Zimonjic and Viktor Troicki lifted the Serbs to a clinching four-
set victory over a Belgian duo of Darcis and Ruben Bemelmans. It gave the
visitors an unassailable 3-0 lead.
The 2010 champion Serbs opened a 2-0 advantage on Friday when Troicki battled
back from an 0-2 deficit to beat Goffin and world No. 1 star Novak Djokovic
cruised past Olivier Rochus in straight sets. Djokovic is fresh off his third
straight and fourth overall Australian Open title last week.
Serbia, which lost to Belgium in the lone previous Davis Cup encounter back in
2005, advanced to April's quarterfinals against the United States.
