Young named CBA Player of the Week
Albany, NY (Sports Network) - Yakama Sun Kings forward Galen Young was named the Continental Basketball Association's Player of the Week for the period of December 1 through December 10.
In five games, Young averaged 18.4 points, 12.4 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game, pushing the Sun Kings to a 4-1 mark in the stretch. The team is in first place in the CBA's National Conference.
Young collected 17 points and 16 boards while dishing out 13 assists in a loss to Albany on December 8, then followed up by contributing 22 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists to help Yakama defeat Albany two days later. With the achievement, Young became the first CBA player in six years to record triple- doubles in consecutive games. Former Sun King David Vanderpool achieved the feat on March 24 and 25, 2000.
A fourth-year player, Young leads the CBA in both rebounds and assists. He previously played in the CBA with the Grand Rapids Hoops (1999-00) and Gary Steelheads (2002-04) and was a second-round selection of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1999 NBA Draft.
This is Young's first CBA Player of the Week award. Other players considered included Minot guard Desmond Ferguson (29.3 ppg), Albany guard T.J. Thompson (24.8 ppg) and Indiana forward Will Caudle (24.5 ppg).
