Butler and Sanders named CBA Players of the Week

Boise, ID (Sports Network) - The Continental Basketball Association announced Monday that Great Lakes center Jackie Butler and Dakota guard Melvin Sanders were named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of February 20-26.

Butler was honored for the second time this season after he averaged 25.3 points and 12.7 rebounds last week, helping the Storm to a 2-1 record. He scored 33 points and pulled down 14 boards in a victory over Gary on February 22 and then collected 28 points and 14 rebounds the following day versus Rockford.

Butler signed a contract Sunday with the New York Knicks for the remainder of the season.

Sanders posted averages of 33.0 points and 9.2 boards last week, as the Wizards went 4-0. He also shot 61 percent from the floor. His highlight game came against Gary on February 25 when he poured in 41 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

Other players receiving consideration for the award were Gary's David Graves, Rockford's Marshall Phillips, Idaho's Sam Clancy and Sioux Falls' Jerome Beasley.
