Description: Senators winger Bobby Ryan was irked by comments released in an ESPN.com feature detailing a five-month process of the selection of the USA Olympic men's hockey team. In the article, director of player personnel Brian Burke was quoted as saying that Ryan is "a passive guy" and "not intense." Ryan was one of the biggest names not selected for the team. SOURCE: tsn.ca
Insight: "It was kinda gutless," Ryan said. "I almost feel degraded when it comes out like that. It is what it is -- that's their decision and that's how they feel about me." The feature also said that another selection committee member called Ryan a "sleepy" skater. "They were direct quotes," said Ryan. "It's unfortunate they feel that way. They've got to form a team. I guess to a certain degree you have to respect it. You don't have to agree with it, right? I certainly don't. They could have just cut me." Ryan is on track for his fifth career 30-goal season, but he's coming off a December in which he had just 11 points in 16 games. The Team USA snub should provide plenty of motivation.
