Description: Rangers defenseman Marc Staal (back) is questionable for Thursday's game, according to Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record.
Insight: Staal is not a high-scoring defenseman, doesn't take a lot of shots and doesn't spend many minutes in the penalty box. He's a nonfactor in all leagues.

Insight: Staal's return to the ice won't impact many fantasy rosters. He's only posted three points in 30 games this season.

Description: New York defenseman Mark Staal has officially been diagnosed with a concussion. SOURCE: Rangers on Twitter
Insight: We thought that might be the case after Staal was held out of Sunday's game against Washington. The Rangers aren't sure how much time he'll need to recover.

12/8/2013 11:00:00 AM
Description: Rangers defenseman Mark Staal is questionable for Sunday's game against Washington with head/chin injuries.
Insight: He scored two goals and three points in 30 games so his health, or lack of it, won't change any fantasy lineups.

9/13/2013 11:40:00 AM
Description: Rangers defenseman Mark Staal says his vision is much improved as the teams heads to camp, according to a New York Post report.
Insight: He scored two goals and 11 points in 21 regular season games after getting hurt on March 5, but is capable of much more if healthy.

5/25/2013 10:02:00 AM
Description: Rangers defenseman Mark Staal is questionable for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals Saturday against the Bruins with blurred vision.
Insight: His vision has been improving, but it's still unlikely that he gets on the ice for Saturday's game. He scored two goals and 11 points in 21 regular season games, but hasn't seen the ice since Game 1 of the series with Washington.

5/6/2013 11:04:00 PM
Description: Rangers defenseman Mark Staal logged 17 minutes Monday in his return from an eye injury.
Insight: He finished with a -1 rating. Staal recorded 11 points in 21 games during the regular season.

3/7/2013 5:02:00 PM
Description: Rangers defenseman Marc Staal is out indefinitely with a right eye injury, but doctors are optimistic he will make a full recovery. SOURCE: The Bergen Record
Insight: Staal, who doesn't wear a protective visor, was hit in the right eye by a Kimmo Timonen slapshot this week. New York picked up defenseman Roman Hamrlik off waivers from Washington.

3/6/2013 5:17:00 PM
Description: Rangers defenseman Marc Staal was hit in his right eye by a Kimmo Timonen slapshot Tuesday night and there was no update on his condition after the game, according to the Bergen Record.
Insight: Staal doesn't wear a protective visor, leaving him vulnerable to stray pucks. He was in considerable pain on the ice after being hit and we don't expect him to play Thursday against the Islanders.

2/23/2013 6:34:00 PM
Description: It looks as though Rangers defenseman Marc Staal will be active Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens.
Insight: Staal is dealing with the flu but he was on the ice for warmups. The blueliner has nine points in 16 games this season but he's only useful for assists.

2/7/2013 9:33:00 PM
Description: Rangers defenseman Marc Staal had two assists Thursday against the Islanders.
Insight: Staal only had five points in 46 games last season, when he spent most of the season outside of the top-four blueliners, but he already has six in 10 this season. Playing with Michael Del Zotto, Staal should easily duplicate his 2010-11 pace, when he had 29 points (7 G, 22 A) with 50 PIM, 116 SOG and a plus-8 in 77 games.

1/27/2013 11:08:00 AM
Description: Rangers blueliner Marc Staal has a goal and two assists over his first five games.
Insight: That's just two fewer points than he had in 46 games last season, when he spent most of the season outside of the top-four blueliners. Staal doesn't play on the Rangers top defensive pairing but he still gets plenty of ice time on the second grouping with Michael Del Zotto. Staal should easily duplicate his 2010-11 pace, when he had 29 points (7 G, 22 A) with 50 PIM, 116 SOG and a plus-8 in 77 games.

1/2/2012 1:55:00 PM
Description: Marc Staal is expected to return to the Rangers' lineup at the Winter Classic on Monday after missing the entire season with concussion symptoms. NHL.com
Insight: Coincidentally, Marc's brother Jordan made his season debut at last season's Winter Classic. Staal suffered his concussion last season from a hit delivered by another brother, Eric. Marc's return to the lineup should help an injury-depleted blueline unit.

10/5/2011 12:56:00 PM
Description: According to Rangers GM Glen Sather, Marc Staal may miss the next month because of concussion-like symptoms. TSN
Insight: Sather could be accused of doublespeak, as he denied that Staal has suffered a setback after saying recently that Staal's headaches were not concussion-related. Staal is a fringe fantasy option when healthy, so he does not need to be on fantasy rosters at this moment.

9/20/2011 3:11:00 PM
Description: Marc Staal is still dealing with the effects of a concussion that he suffered last season from a hit by his older brother Eric Staal. New York Post
Insight: Hopefully the brothers are still on good terms despite the hit. Staal returned to practice on Tuesday participating in non-contact drills, although he will not play in Wednesday's preseason game. His availability to start the season is still up in the air. If Staal is out long-term, then the Rangers could turn to Bryan McCabe, Paul Mara, or Wade Redden - all who have played for the Blueshirts in the past.

3/20/2011 11:41:00 AM
Description: Marc Staal won't be in the Rangers' lineup for Sunday's matinee game against Pittsburgh. Ranger Rants
Insight: Staal is sidelined with an undisclosed injury that forced him to miss Saturday's practice as well.

3/3/2011 2:44:00 PM
Description: Marc Staal is expected to return to the Rangers' lineup on Thursday against Minnesota. Bergen Record
Insight: Staal has missed the past three games with a minor knee injury. The funny thing is that the injury occurred at the hands of his brother Eric Staal.

2/22/2011 11:35:00 PM
Description: Marc Staal left Tuesday's game against Carolina after taking a hit from brother Eric Staal during the second period of Tuesday's game. TSN
Insight: If Marc misses any time because of a knee injury, then Eric will have some explaining to do at the family reunion this summer. Check back for further updates on the younger Staal's condition.

1/28/2011 9:28:00 PM
Description: Eric Staal selected his brother Marc Staal with the 13th overall pick at the NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft. TSN
Insight: Unlike the Sedins, there will be no Staal sibling rivalry at this year's All-Star Game. Team Staal remains true to its name.
