1/7/2013 12:49:00 PM
Description: Bruins center Marc Savard tweeted last week that he was very interested in coaching.
Insight: Savard has dealt with post-concussion symptoms since 2010 and we don't expect his return to the NHL as a player.
8/31/2011 4:17:00 PM
Description: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has told the Boston Globe that Marc Savard is "very unlikely" to ever play in the NHL again. Chiarelli also confirmed that Savard would not play at all this season. TSN
Insight: Savard has dealt with post-concussion symptoms during the past two seasons as the result of two separate concussions. It's unfortunate that the original hit delivered from Matt Cooke went unpunished. Savard is struggling just to lead a normal life at this point, so Chiarelli's words are likely true.
3/27/2011 1:58:00 PM
Description: An unnamed source told ESPN that Marc Savard is dealing with memory problems. TSN
Insight: Savard has been shut down for the season because of post-concussion symptoms, and his availability for next season is in serious doubt. He would make a perfect poster child for why the NHL needs a more firm concussion policy.
2/8/2011 12:01:00 AM
Description: Savard has been shut down for the rest of the season because of concussion symptoms.
Insight: Savard suffered his second concussion in 10 months on Jan. 22 and has been experiencing headaches on and off since. He has just 10 points for the season, so at least his scoring is replaceable. (RapidDraft.com)
2/7/2011 4:24:00 PM
Description: As expected, Marc Savard announced on Monday that he would he would not return for the rest of the regular season or the playoffs. TSN
Insight: Savard would also not commit to the future beyond this season, as he will need more medical tests. You can officially drop Savard if you are in a single-season league. Many keeper leaguers can also consider dropping him, as his future as an NHL player remains in doubt.
2/6/2011 9:16:00 PM
Description: According to Comcast Sportsnet, the Boston Bruins will announce on Monday that they will shut down Marc Savard for the season. TSN
Insight: Savard suffered his second serious concussion in less than a year on January 22 against Colorado. With Savard going on long-term injury reserve, expect the Bruins to attempt to trade for a scorer before the trade deadline. Feel free to officially cut Savard from single-season leagues.
2/3/2011 4:11:00 PM
Description: Marc Savard will be examined this week to determine whether he needs to be shut down this season. TSN
Insight: Expect the Bruins to play it safe with Savard, who has now suffered two major concussions in less than a season. Fantasy owners should already be looking for other options to replace Savard, who has just two goals and ten points in 25 games this season.
2/1/2011 3:47:00 PM
Description: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has admitted that shutting down Marc Savard for the season is a possibility. Boston Herald
Insight: Savard is back in Boston on Tuesday to be re-examined for his latest concussion. At the very least, don't expect Savard to return to the Bruins' lineup anytime soon, as he is still dealing with the usual symptoms of post-concussion syndrome.
1/27/2011 11:03:00 AM
Description: Savard, out since Jan. 22 with a concussion, has been sent home to rest.
Insight: Expect the center to sit out at least through all-star weekend. We'll see after that. (RapidDraft.com)
1/24/2011 8:20:00 PM
Description: Marc Savard has been diagnosed with another concussion and will be sidelined indefinitely. TSN
Insight: Savard suffered the head injury during Saturday's game against Colorado. As this is his second concussion in less than a year - the first one significant - he could be out for a long while.
1/23/2011 3:05:00 PM
Description: Savard suffered a head injury in Saturday's game, but the Boston Globe reported that he did not exhibit concussion symptoms afterward.
Insight: Savard flew back to Boston for evaluation rather than on to Los Angeles with the team. It seems safe to assume he'll miss at least one game. Of course, with just 10 points so far this season, it also seems safe to assume he's not in your lineup even when healthy. (RapidDraft.com)
1/23/2011 2:58:00 PM
Description: Marc Savard will miss Monday's game against Los Angeles, as he will fly back to Boston to be re-evaluated for the head injury he suffered on Saturday. TSN
Insight: This is hardly a surprise, considering Savard's recent concussion history and the way he looked after being hit on Saturday. Keep him on your bench for the coming week, and expect another trip to the IR soon.
1/22/2011 5:15:00 PM
Description: Marc Savard left Saturday afternoon's game against Colorado in the second period after hitting his head into the boards. ESPN Boston
Insight: Savard was the victim of a clean hit from Avalanche defenseman (and former Bruins' teammate) Matt Hunwick. Savard was rolling around on the ice after the hit and left the game while holding his head. Given Savard's recent concussion history, this injury doesn't sound promising at all.
12/3/2010 12:28:00 AM
Description: Marc Savard was held without a point in 15:45 of icetime in the Bruins' 8-1 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday. Yahoo Sports
Insight: The Bruins obviously didn't need to play Savard a lot in this one. Even though Savard took only one shot on goal, Bruins coach Claude Julien was pleased with Savard's effort. Expect Savard to slowly make his way back into the fold after missing two months of action with post-concussion syndrome.
12/2/2010 7:01:00 PM
Description: According to a Bruins' source, Marc Savard has been cleared to return to the Bruins' lineup on Thursday against Tampa Bay. ESPN Boston
Insight: Savard will be playing in his first game of the season after a lengthy bout with post-concussion syndrome. Expect Bruins coach Claude Julien to ease Savard back into the mix, but Savard is worth owning in all fantasy leagues again.
12/2/2010 12:41:00 PM
Description: Marc Savard could make his long-awaited season debut on Thursday against Tampa Bay. Boston Globe
Insight: Savard participated in the team's morning skate, fueling rumors that he will return on Thursday. If he is still not ready, he is a strong bet to be in the lineup on Saturday against Toronto.
11/26/2010 12:29:00 PM
Description: Marc Savard is expected back in the Bruins' lineup within two weeks. Boston Herald
Insight: Expect the Bruins to ease Savard back into the lineup, as he is returning from a serious concussion. However, he's worth a flier if he still happens to be available in your league.
11/23/2010 5:32:00 PM
Description: Marc Savard has been cleared to participate in contract drills at practice. TSN
Insight: Savard appears to be within a couple weeks of returning to game action, although there is still no timetable for his return. Take a look at your league's waiver wire to see if he is available, although he may not be the same player at first when he returns.
11/20/2010 3:58:00 PM
Description: Marc Savard skated with his teammates on Saturday, then told the media that he had nothing against NHL VP Colin Campbell. ESPN Boston
Insight: In emails from three years ago leaked earlier in the week, Campbell had called Savard a "little fake artist." The comments were especially concerning since Matt Cooke was not suspended for his dirty blindside hit on Savard that led to Savard's Grade II concussion. Both Campbell and Savard have since cleared the air, and Savard also made a point to speak to Campbell's son, teammate Gregory Campbell.
11/19/2010 12:01:00 PM
Description: Marc Savard has been cleared to return to practice, but he has not been cleared for contact drills yet. CSNNE
Insight: Savard is not expected to return to game action until December at the earliest. He is a possible waiver-wire pickup if he is available, but don't expect him to rush back into the lineup nor be completely his old self once he is back.
