NHL Game Summary - Minnesota at Chicago

(Saturday, October 26th)

Final Score: Minnesota 5, Chicago 3

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jason Pominville tallied two goals as the Minnesota Wild defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 5-3, at United Center.

Zach Parise, Kyle Brodziak and Justin Fontaine each lit the lamp as well as the Wild matched their season-high of five goals. Mikael Granlund and Ryan Suter both contributed two assists to help the Wild extend their winning streak to three games.

Niklas Backstrom stopped 33-of-36 shots and earned his first win of the season in an excellent performance between the pipes.

"It starts with Backy, no question, he was on top of his game. We were on our toes, aggressive, with good sticks and reads," said Wild head coach Mike Yeo.

Bryan Bickell, Patrick Kane and Marcus Kruger scored for Chicago in defeat. Corey Crawford allowed five goals on 25 shots as the Blackhawks dropped their second straight game.

"We kept ourselves in the game. I don't know how many goals they got off the faceoff, bingo-bango take a lead right from the start," said Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville.

Parise opened up the scoring on the power play 12:39 into the first period. Suter shot from the point and Parise swept the puck past an out-of-position Crawford.

Brodziak deflected a shot from Marco Scandella 1:03 into the second to put the Wild up 2-0.

Later in the period, Bickell took a pass from Nick Leddy in the middle and patiently skated over towards the left circle, where he shot through traffic past Backstrom to cut Minnesota's lead in half.

Pominville then scored the next two goals for Minnesota in his 600th NHL career game.

Suter sent a cross-ice pass to Granlund at the left faceoff circle, and Granlund found Pominville in the middle for a quick shot over the left shoulder of Crawford.

Granlund took a turnover in the middle of Chicago's zone and dished a quick pass over to Pominville, who slapped another shot into the net to give Minnesota a 4-1 lead with 10:42 left.

Kane took a touch pass from Jonathan Toews and wristed it through the five- hole of Backstrom to make it 4-2 with close to seven minutes left in the game.

The Wild would respond less than three minutes later. Mikko Koivu eluded a hit and dished a pass in front of the net to Fontaine, who lifted a shot over Crawford.

Kruger fired a quick shot past Backstrom with 29 seconds remaining in the game for his first goal of the season.

Game Notes

Chicago went 1-for-7 on the power play, while Minnesota went 1-for-5 ... The Wild outshot the Blackhawks by a 36-25 margin.
