Final Score: Minnesota 3, Calgary 2
St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Zach Parise scored the eventual winner in the third period as the Minnesota Wild edged the Calgary Flames, 3-2, on Monday.
Kyle Brodziak and Jared Spurgeon also scored for the Wild, who have ripped off five straight wins. Darcy Kuemper stopped 21 shots in the win.
"There wasn't a lot going on at times because they're a tough team in the neutral zone and they weren't giving us much," said Parise.
Mark Giordano and Mike Cammalleri also scored for the Flames, who were coming off a 2-1 win against Edmonton on Saturday. Reto Berra gave up all three goals on 27 shots.
"Overall I felt I had a good game," said Berra. "They have a fast team and they like to shoot, but I thought we all played really hard tonight."
With the score tied, the Wild took a 2-1 lead at 5:49 of the third as Spurgeon's wrister from the high slot went through a screen for his second of the year.
Minnesota gave itself some insurance at 14:44 as Jason Pominville's shot from the right boards was tipped in by Parise in front for a 3-1 advantage.
"We finally got some control in the zone on that play and we're able to get one on the board," said Parise.
The goal proved fortunate as Giordano scored on a one-timer from the left circle set up by a pass from Markus Granlund with 3:59 to play.
Calgary got Berra out of the net with 1 1/2 minutes to play, but was unable to net the equalizer.
After a scoreless first period, the Wild drew first blood as Berra tried to play the puck behind his net, but Matt Cooke rushed in and poked it away to Brodziak, who deposited the puck into the open net at 9:02.
Calgary, though, tied the game at 16:41 of the second when Dennis Wideman sent a shot on net from the right point that hit off a Wild player and went to the left circle where Cammalleri snapped it in.
