Final Score: Los Angeles 3, Vancouver 2 (OT)
Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Anze Kopitar scored the winner just 48 seconds into overtime as the Los Angeles Kings rallied for a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday.
Slava Voynov carried the puck through the neutral zone then dumped it to the left corner boards. Following the puck up, Voynov was able to cleanly grab the disc as the defender overskated. From there, Voynov centered the disc and Kopitar one-timed it home past Roberto Luongo for the win.
Mike Richards tied the game in the third period, while Kyle Clifford had the other goal for the Kings, who snapped a two-game slide. Ben Scrivens made 37 stops in the win.
"We just have to scrape and claw for points," Richards said. "It wasn't the prettiest on our part. We took too many penalties, and we turned some pucks over, but two points is what we wanted."
Christopher Tanev and Henrik Sedin scored for the Canucks, who have lost seven of their last eight. Luongo made 19 stops in the loss.
"We did all the right things, but we didn't finish the game," said Vancouver head coach John Tortorella. "I'll keep building the team. There's lots of hockey left."
The Kings opened the scoring at 13:50 of the first period on a 2-on-1 break that saw Linden Vey send the puck from the right to the left for Clifford, who made a move to get to the backhand and slip the disc in.
Vancouver tied the game with 2:56 to play in the second period as Chris Higgins' slap shot from the right point was re-directed by Tanev in front for his first of the season.
The Canucks made it a 2-1 game at 6:59 of the third on the power play as the team worked the puck in the zone before Daniel Sedin sent a shot on net that saw Henrik clean up the rebound for his seventh of the season.
Los Angeles, though, tied the game with 2:54 left in regulation after a collision in the left corner saw the puck come behind the net where Jeff Carter picked it up and centered it for Richards, who one-timed it home.
Vancouver plays at Ottawa on Thursday ... Los Angeles plays at San Jose on Wednesday ... The Kings have won both games against the Canucks this season as they took a 5-1 win in Los Angeles on Nov. 9 ... Vancouver was 1-for-8 on the power play while Los Angeles went 0-for-3.
