Final Score: Vancouver 2, Winnipeg 1
Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Christopher Tanev scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period and the Vancouver Canucks edged the Winnipeg Jets, 2-1, for their sixth straight victory at home.
Eddie Lack earned the win with 15 saves in relief of starter Roberto Luongo, who departed at 16:30 of the first period with a lower-body injury.
Brad Richardson picked up the other goal on a power play for the Canucks, who improved to 9-1-1 in December.
"These are important wins for us," said Vancouver head coach John Tortorella. "I'm very happy with the team and how they've responded in the last few weeks."
Ondrej Pavelec made 23 saves for Winnipeg, which has dropped five of seven.
Tanev gathered Zack Kassian's behind-the-net feed and beat Pavelec with a wrister from the high slot with 9:37 remaining.
Richardson staked the Canucks to a 1-0 lead 10:09 into the contest. His deflection of a Dan Hamhuis shot was upheld following a video review to see if his stick was above the crossbar.
Evander Kane, a Vancouver native, pulled the Jets even on a second-period power play, one-timing a Blake Wheeler pass from the slot with 8:38 left.
"I thought our intensity stepped up in the second," said Winnipeg head coach Claude Noel. "We carried a lot of the play, we weren't able to close out and push ahead."
Vancouver defenseman Kevin Bieksa played in his 500th NHL game ... The Canucks have won four straight at home over Winnipeg.
