Blackhawks, Leighton agree on 1-year deal
Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with veteran goaltender Michael Leighton on a one-year contract, the team announced Monday.
Leighton, 33, spent last season out of the NHL playing overseas for the KHL's Donbass Donetsk.
He was drafted by the Blackhawks in 1999 and appeared in 42 games for them between 2002-04 with an 8-21-10 record.
Leighton's last NHL action came in 2012-13 for the Philadelphia Flyers, his fourth season with the team. He had three shutouts against Montreal in the 2010 Eastern Conference finals, setting an NHL record and leading the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Blackhawks.
He has 35-41-14 record in 105 regular-season NHL games for Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia and Carolina and an 8-4 postseason record.
