Canucks retain F Kassian
Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Vancouver Canucks re-signed forward Zack Kassian on Friday.
The Vancouver Sun reported Kassian, a restricted free agent, and the club agreed to a two-year, $3.5 million contract.
Kassian, 23, had 14 goals and 15 assists in 73 games last season.
"Zack is a skilled, young player and an important member of this team," said Canucks general manager Jim Benning. "He has the ability to impact a game both with his talent and size. We look forward to seeing him continue to develop as a Canuck."
The Canucks acquired the 6-foot-3 Kassian in a trade with Buffalo on Feb. 27, 2012. The Sabres selected him 13th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft.
For his career, Kassian has 25 goals, 50 points and 226 penalty minutes in 156 games.
The Canucks also re-signed defenseman Yannick Weber. The 25-year-old Weber played in 49 games with the Canucks last season, collecting six goals and four assists.
