Pens, Downie agree to terms
Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins added some grit to their forward lines on Wednesday, agreeing to terms with veteran Steve Downie.
Both TSN of Canada and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the deal is worth $1 million for the upcoming season.
Downie participated in 62 games last season with Colorado and Philadelphia, totaling four goals and 24 points with 106 penalty minutes.
He was sent from Colorado to Philadelphia in late October in exchange for forward Max Talbot, then saw his season interrupted twice due to injury -- the last time because of a concussion which cost him the tail end of the regular season and all of the Flyers' seven-game first-round loss to the Rangers.
Over 336 NHL games since 2007, the feisty 27-year-old has picked up 59 goals, 103 assists and 766 penalty minutes for the Flyers, Lightning and Avalanche.
