Ducks end home skid, rout Panthers
Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry each had a goal with two assists, and the Anaheim Ducks got back on track with a 6-2 rout of the visiting Florida Panthers.
Jonas Hiller made 28 saves for the Ducks, who snapped a four-game losing streak at Honda Center and closed to within one point of Pacific Division- leading San Jose. Sunday's win was just the third in Anaheim's last nine games overall.
Six different Ducks players beat Florida goaltender Dan Ellis, who faced 40 shots.
The Panthers lost their third straight game after beginning a four-game road trip with a win at San Jose.
Anaheim raced out to a 3-0 lead before Florida struck twice in a 2:01 span in the second period.
Jimmy Hayes tipped a Krys Barch shot at 7:59 and Tomas Fleischmann scored into an open net at the 10-minute mark after Vincent Trocheck's wraparound attempt went through the crease.
The Ducks countered with goals from Kyle Palmieri and Perry 61 seconds apart to go up 5-2.
Palmieri scored on a tap-in 55 seconds after Fleischmann lit the lamp. Perry then potted his own rebound from his knees at 11:56.
Getzlaf finished off a give-and-go with Teemu Selanne by scoring from the slot at 6:32 of the third period. The goal was his 30th of the season and his 600th career point.
"They've had a little adversity lately but you had to be ready for a big push out of them," Ellis said.
Getzlaf fed Patrick Maroon in front and Maroon fired a shot along the ice and inside the left post for a power-play goal at 11:57 of the first period.
Maroon eventually left the game with a lower-body injury.
"I don't think it's that bad. To me, it was more precautionary than anything else," Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau said about Maroon's status. "It was 5-2 at the end of the second. I didn't want to do anything that might hamper him and put him out longer than maybe not playing Wednesday."
Selanne scored 15 seconds into the second period, and Jakob Silfverberg scored on a short-handed breakaway at 4:08.
Anaheim defenseman Francois Beauchemin played in his 600th career NHL game, while Ellis appeared in his 200th career NHL game ... The Panthers have allowed a power-play goal in nine straight games ... Florida defenseman Brian Campbell was minus-4.
