Sedin twins re-sign with Canucks
Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Vancouver Canucks re-signed forwards Daniel and Henrik Sedin to matching four-year contract extensions Friday.
Financial terms of the new contracts were not released, but multiple media reports valued each at $28 million. The Sedins are in the final year of a five-year, $30.5 million deal they signed ahead of the 2009-10 season.
The deal will keep the 33-year-old Swedish twins in Vancouver through the end of the 2017-18 season.
"Daniel and Henrik are exemplary leaders, teammates and humanitarians and we're very pleased to have them as part of our team for the long-term," Canucks general manager Michael Gillis said in a statement. "Few players in the history of this club have had more significant roles in contributing to the success of this team and to our community and we look forward to many more years with their positive influence leading the way."
Henrik, the captain of the Canucks, currently holds franchise records for most points (792), assists (610), plus/minus (plus-200) and consecutive games played (629). He ranks second in franchise history in games played (940) and third in game-winning goals (33).
Daniel is second in franchise history in scoring with 773 points. He has 297 goals and 476 assists in 921 career games.
The Sedins have spent their entire NHL careers with the Canucks after being drafted by Vancouver in 1999. Daniel was selected with the No. 2 pick and Henrik was selected with the No. 3 pick.
