Avs sign Duchene for two more years

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche have signed forward Matt Duchene to a two-year contract through the 2013-14 season.

Duchene was limited to just 58 games this past season because of an ankle injury and finished with 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points. He led the Avalanche in scoring during the 2010-11 campaign with 67 points.

"Matt is an important part of our team," said Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman in a statement. "We are excited to come to terms with him and we look forward to seeing him at camp."

The Avalanche selected Duchene with the third overall pick of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has recorded 65 goals and 85 assists for 150 points in 219 games with the franchise.

Duchene was an All-Rookie selection and a Calder Trophy finalist in 2009-10. He became the youngest player in franchise history to reach 100 career points, doing so at the age of 20 years, 10 days in January of 2011.
