Avalanche ink David Jones to four-year deal

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche signed forward David Jones to a four-year contract through the 2015-16 season on Thursday.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the Denver Post reported the pact to be worth $16 million. He was set to be an unrestricted free agent in July.

Jones notched 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in 72 games last season. He was third on the team in goals and tied for fourth in points, after a 2010-11 season in which he tied for the team lead with 27 goals.

"David has been one of our top offensive players over the past two seasons," said Avalanche general manager and executive vice president Greg Sherman in a statement Thursday. "He is a product of our organization who has developed into a proven goal scorer. We are pleased to have him under contract as he enters the prime of his career.'

The 27-year-old Ontario native has 67 goals and 50 assists in 239 NHL games, all with the Avalanche. He was selected in the ninth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
