Habs keep Weise with two-year deal

Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Montreal Canadiens have agreed to terms of a two-year contract with forward Dale Weise.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Montreal acquired Weise in a February trade that sent defenseman Raphael Diaz to Vancouver.

"The acquisition of Dale Weise contributed to the success of our team this season," said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin in a statement Tuesday. "A young veteran with a lot of character, Dale is an intense player with a strong work ethic. We're very pleased to have him as part of our team moving forward."

Weise notched six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in a combined 61 games for the Canucks and Canadiens this past season. He added three goals and four assists for seven points in 16 playoff games, scoring a pair of game-winners to help the Canadiens reach the Eastern Conference finals.

The 25-year-old Winnipeg native has 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 179 regular-season games with the Canadiens, Canucks and New York Rangers. He was selected by the Rangers in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
