Sabres Ruhwedel, Lieuwen done for season with concussions
Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - After announcing that goaltender Nathan Lieuwen and defenseman Chad Ruhwedel will miss the remainder of the season with concussions, the Buffalo Sabres recalled defenseman Mark Pysyk and goaltender Andrey Makarov from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.
Ruhwedel and Lieuwen both suffered concussions in Sunday's 5-2 loss to Philadelphia.
Ruhwedel was hit with an illegal check to the head by Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo, who was suspended on Monday for four games without pay for delivering the blow.
Lieuwen, meanwhile, collided with Flyers forward Jay Rosehill.
Lieuwen played in seven games this season and went 1-4 with a .906 save percentage.
Ruhwedel played in 21 games and had one assist.
Pysyk joins the Sabres for his second recall of the year and third stint in Buffalo this season after beginning the 2013-14 season with the team. He has appeared in 42 games with the Sabres this season, recording one goal and five assists.
This will be Makarov's first NHL experience.
The team also announced it has assigned forward Luke Adam to Rochester.
