Umberger, Matt Read and Sean Couturier tallied in the third period, as the Philadelphia Flyers continued their domination at CONSOL Energy Center with a 5-3 decision over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare picked up his first NHL score and Mark Streit also lit the lamp for the Flyers, who bounced back nicely from a 4-0 defeat in Chicago on Tuesday. Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek contributed two assists each while Ray Emery stopped 22 shots as Philadelphia improved to 10-1-1 in the Steel City since October of 2010. Nick Spaling picked up a goal and assist, with Marcel Goc and Pascal Dupuis adding goals for the Penguins. Marc-Andre Fleury took the loss after stopping 28-of-32 shots.

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Nikita Nikitin scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and the Edmonton Oilers hung on for a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night. Nikitin tallied on the power play off a high point one-timed slap shot at the 16:08 mark of the frame and Ben Scrivens made 13 of his 32 saves in the third period to preserve the victory. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Justin Schultz also lit the lamp, while Teddy Purcell dished out two assists for Edmonton, which has won two straight following an 0-4-1 start. Mike Green and John Carlson netted goals for the Capitals, who were the last team in the Eastern Conference to suffer a regulation loss. Braden Holtby stopped 17 shots in defeat.

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Perry deposited his second hat trick of the season to back another strong showing from Frederik Andersen, and the Anaheim Ducks stayed hot with a 4-1 win over the scuffling Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. Andersen followed up his first career shutout on Sunday against St. Louis by stopping 22-of-23 shots in Anaheim's sixth straight win. Ryan Kesler scored a goal and Ryan Getzlaf added two assists for the Ducks, who defeated the Sabres, 5-1, in Buffalo on Oct. 13. Buffalo, which was coming off back-to-back losses via the shutout, had gone exactly 197 minutes without a goal until Tyler Ennis lit the lamp late in the third period. Michal Neuvirth made 30 saves on 33 shots for the Sabres, who have dropped three straight overall and six of seven to open the season.
Toronto at Ottawa, postponed
Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Wednesday night's scheduled game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre was postponed following a shooting in downtown Ottawa. The NHL said the game will be played at a later date. The game was called off after a Canadian soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial was shot and killed. According to CTV News, the shooting at the memorial was one of three separate shootings in the heart of the nation's capital that forced Parliament Hill into lockdown.
