Rangers acquire Carcillo from Kings
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Rangers moved quickly after an injury struck one of their players, acquiring forward Dan Carcillo from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2014.
The move was made Saturday, less than 24 hours after forward Derek Dorsett suffered a broken fibula and is expected to miss the next 4-to-6 weeks.
"We picked up a player that can bring an element of toughness. It's an area we felt we needed to get a little bit better," Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault said.
Dorsett exited Friday's game against Pittsburgh in the first period and did not return after going down to block a shot from Pens defenseman Matt Niskanen. The puck eventually found its way to Chris Kunitz for the game's first goal and Dorsett skated to the bench slowly, hunched over and in visible pain. Pittsburgh eventually won, 5-2.
Carcillo has posted one goal and one assist with 57 penalty minutes in 26 games for the Kings this season. He won a Stanley Cup with Chicago last year, contributing two goals and three points in 23 appearances.
The 28-year-old has collected 41 goals and 89 points with 1,136 PIM over 359 NHL contests for the Coyotes, Flyers, Blackhawks and Kings.
