Leafs beat Panthers behind Scrivens' second straight shutout

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Nazem Kadri and Clarke MacArthur each tallied one goal and one assist to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-0 win over the Florida Panthers on Monday.

Phil Kessel also lit the lamp, while James van Riemsdyk, Dion Phaneuf and Cody Franson each added assists for the Maple Leafs, winners in six of their last seven tilts.

Ben Scrivens stopped all 37 shots to register his second straight shutout.

Jose Theodore made 29 saves for the Panthers, who have dropped five straight.

A Florida turnover in the Toronto zone led to fastbreak goal for Kessel with just under three minutes left in the opening period.

Mike Weaver lost control of the puck just inside the blue line and van Riemsdyk recovered the loose puck before sending it up ice to Kessel, who beat Theodore with a wrister from the left wing for his third goal of the season

Toronto added a pair of goals in the second period just over 1 1/2 minutes apart to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

On a man advantage, Phaneuf threw the puck out from behind the net to Kadri, who pounded the disc past Theodore at the 12:13 mark.

Kadri then took the puck near the right boards near the Florida blue line and centered a pass to MacArthur who banged it off the right post with 6:03 left for his third goal of the season.

Game Notes

Scrivens has two career shutouts ... Toronto had dropped its previous five against the Panthers ... Tomas Fleischmann had six shots on goal for Florida.
