Description: Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams had his best game of the season with 210 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries Sunday against the Saints.
Insight: Williams finished the season strong with 445 rushing yards, 139 receiving yards and four touchdowns in his final five games, and it could have been even better if he didn't have a 70-plus yard touchdown called back last week.

12/23/2012 4:31:00 PM
Description: Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams only had 19 yards on 10 carries and 29 yards on two catches Sunday against the Raiders.
Insight: Jonathan Stewart didn't play, which increased Williams' chances of putting up another useful performance, but his only contribution of the day, a 76-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, was called back due to a Steve Smith holding penalty.

Description: Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams has finally turned into a somewhat useful fantasy running back again but that could end Sunday against the Raiders if Jonathan Stewart returns.
Insight: Williams ran for a season-high 93 yards last Sunday and also caught two passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. He had 112 total yards and a touchdown in Week 14 and 67 rushing yards in Week 13 but fantasy owners won't be able to rely on him despite the extremely favorable matchup if Stewart is active.

12/9/2012 6:28:00 PM
Description: Panthers' running back DeAngelo Williams only ran for 56 yards on 17 carries but caught a 53-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter Sunday against the Falcons.
Insight: Williams has been unreliable this season but he's obviously more useful when Jonathan Stewart is absent from the lineup.

11/30/2012 2:20:00 PM
Description: Panthers' running back DeAngelo Williams should see an increase in playing time with starter Jonathan Stewart likely to miss the game against Kansas City due to an ankle sprain.
Insight: Williams has only reached double-digit fantasy points in one game this season, back in Week 2. With quarterback Cam Newton stealing red zone rushing touchdowns, the Carolina backs are rarely worthy of a start in fantasy lineups and we can't recommend Williams even with Stewart sidelined.

11/7/2012 11:20:00 AM
Description: Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams saw an increase in playing time against Washington from the previous week, leaving fantasy owners confused by Carolina's backfield situation.
Insight: Williams ran well, posting 37 yards and a touchdown on just six carries. The distribution of plays for the backfield was Jonathan Stewart 10 carries, Williams six and Mike Tolbert three rushing attempts. At this level it's tough to start any of the Panthers' running backs.

Description: Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams could be dealt before next week's trading deadline. SOURCE: Michael Lombardi, NFL Network
Insight: Williams is expendable now that Jonathan Stewart has emerged as the team's every down back. The Panthers certainly wouldn't mind getting rid of his awful contract either (five years, $43 million). With that said, no deal is imminent and for now it looks like Williams will remain with Carolina.

Cold10/22/2012 12:47:00 PM
Description: Halfback DeAngelo Williams has carried the ball just eight times combined during Carolina's last two games.
Insight: Williams rushed the ball twice for four yards Sunday against the Cowboys, two weeks after running for just six yards on six carries in a loss to Seattle. Williams has now gone 17 games in a row without breaking the 100-yard barrier and with just 50 attempts on the season, we don't see the seven-year veteran having a breakout game any time soon.

9/20/2012 7:21:00 PM
Description: Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams will get another shot at being the lead back Thursday against the Giants with Jonathan Stewart officially inactive.
Insight: Williams rushed for negative-one yard on six carries in Week 1 with Stewart out but carried 14 times for 69 yards and a touchdown with Stewart active Sunday. He's a strong flex play against a Giants defense that has allowed 4.6 ypc to opposing rushers in the first two games, but we wouldn't recommend using him as your RB2 in leagues with no flex unless you don't possess a less risky option.

8/27/2012 12:02:00 PM
Description: With Jonathan Stewart injuring his ankle in the Panthers' third preseason game and likely questionable for the season opener, DeAngelo Williams' fantasy value could rise.
Insight: Williams, Stewart and Mike Tolbert are set to share the Carolina rushing workload. Add in Cam Newton's running ability and when all are healthy there are too many players and too little opportunities for all to be fantasy-worthy. If Stewart's injury is serious, both Williams and Tolbert stand to gain the most.

8/11/2012 12:15:00 PM
Description: "If our guys are getting anywhere between eight and 10 touches, 12 touches, and they're effective, it's great," said coach Ron Rivera about his running backs to the Charlotte Observer.
Insight: This is the worst news any fantasy owner could hear. The coach wants his running backs, DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, to have an upper limit on touches to stay fresh. Add in touchdown-stealers Mike Tolbert and Cam Newton and the two backs are virtually " un-startable."

3/19/2012 5:09:00 PM
Description: Carolina's recent Mike Tolbert signing has complicated things in the Panthers' backfield.
Insight: Tolbert will probably be Carolina's second-string back, meaning that either Williams or Jonathan Stewart could be on the trading block. Stewart is the most likely to be dealt because of Williams's impossibly large contract but you never know. If all three stay, Cam Newton may never throw the ball next season.

Insight: Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams has re-signed with his old team for five years and $43 million, with $21 million guaranteed. SOURCE: TWITTER Not a huge surprise, but I didn't expect it to happen today. Williams missed a lot of 2010 with an injury, but claims to be 100% healthy and ready to go.

Description: The Denver Broncos have a need at the running back position, and free-agent RB DeAngelo Williams (Panthers) is expected to get a long look, especially with his former head coach John Fox now running the show in Denver. SOURCE: DENVER POST
Insight: How many times have we heard that Knowshon Moreno is not an every-down back? If they keep saying it, that means they have to be looking, and if Williams can stay healthy for a full season, it makes sense. The problem with Williams is that he's just as injury-prone as Moreno... so will he be that much of an upgrade? I guess if the Broncos get both Williams and Moreno to perform for only eight games each, they'll be in good shape.

3/16/2011 10:02:00 PM
Description: Williams would be a restricted free agent if the 2011 NFL season were played under the same rules as 2010.
Insight: That's why the Panthers went ahead and tendered a player expected to be unrestricted. We'll see what happens. Williams should be the most sought after back on the open market if he makes it there. (RapidDraft.com)

2/24/2011 1:10:00 PM
Description: The Panthers have extended a restricted free agent tender to RB DeAngelo Williams. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: The tender may not even mean anything once we know what the tags mean in the next CBA. DL Charles Johnson also got tagged, but neither player is 100 percent locked in as a Panther in 2011.

2/24/2011 10:05:00 AM
Description: The Panthers tendered Williams as a restricted free agent on Wednesday, though it seems unlikely the offer will be supported by the next CBA.
Insight: Williams, with five years in the league, would only fall under the restricted column under the no-cap rules of 2010. Look for the next CBA to return to previous rules that would make him an unrestricted free agent. (RapidDraft.com)

2/23/2011 3:19:00 PM
Description: During the NFL Network's Around the League segment, insider Jason LaCanfora said he'd be "surprised" if the Panthers compete for RB DeAngelo Williams "to the point it would take to re-sign him."
Insight: Williams should be in for a big payday if the CBA is renewed. The Panthers haven't done anything regarding their players except for franchising OL Ryan Kalil, which was a strong sign that the team isn't interested in breaking the bank on the oft-injured Williams. LaCanfora also pointed out that the Panthers won't be in a hurry because of the depth at running back with Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson. Fantasy owners should hope Williams leaves because that will boost the value of both he and Stewart for 2011.

2/22/2011 1:36:00 PM
Description: The Panthers will not use their franchise tag on free agent RB DeAngelo Williams. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: This isn't a surprise, but more confirmation that the team will use the tag on either OL Ryan Kalil or DL Charles Johnson. Kalil's 2011 salary would be $10 million, $3 million cheaper than Johnson's ($13 million) if he was franchised. It's looking more and more like Williams will make it to free agency.

2/18/2011 2:05:00 PM
Description: NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports that the Panthers expect to choose between C Ryan Kalil and DE Charles Johnson for its franchise tag.
Insight: That means it won't be applied to Williams, which shouldn't really surprise anyone. The Panthers have Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson ready to go. Williams should be as attractive as running back on the free-agent market. (RapidDraft.com)
