Description: New Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Robert Griffin III will be his starting quarterback next season. SOURCE: NBC's Pro Football Talk
Insight: Gruden said "there will be no competition." With Griffin's job safe, it's possible that Washington will trade backup Kirk Cousins later this offseason. Cousins finished the 2013 season with 4 TD, 7 INT and a 58.3 quarteback rating in five games.

Description: An unnamed Redskins player told Jeff Darlington of NFL.com that the risk of re-injury was the explanation Mike Shanahan gave the team for Robert Griffin III's benching.
Insight: Griffin will sit the rest of the season in favor of Kirk Cousins so he can go into the offseason fully healthy. In 13 games, Griffin threw for 3,203 yards with 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and rushed for 489 yards (zero rushing scores). He had 3,200 yards, 20 scores and five picks through the air and 815 yards with seven TDs on the ground over 15 games as a rookie before suffering a torn ACL in the postseason.

Insight: We expect a decision to be made on Wednesday. If Griffin is benched, the Redskins will turn to Kirk Cousins Sunday in Atlanta. Cousins has completed 12-of-25 passes for 107 yards and two interceptions in parts of two games this season.

Cold12/9/2013 5:40:00 PM
Description: According to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is considering sitting Robert Griffin III so he doesn't get injured in the last three games.
Insight: Shanahan said he will make a decision Wednesday on his starter for Sunday's game against the Falcons. "If he did get injured, I’d be very disappointed if he wasn’t there in the offseason," Shanahan said. The Washington coach is also on the hot seat, as the Washington Post reported Monday the team is looking into firing him with cause and withholding the remaining money on his contract.

11/3/2013 5:04:00 PM
Description: Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III threw for 291 yards and an interception and rushed for 17 yards on six carries in Week 9 against the Chargers.
Insight: The Redskins moved the football just fine against San Diego but opted to run the ball most of the time when they neared the end zone. All four of Washington's TDs came on the ground.

11/3/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III (knee) is active for Week 9 as expected..
Insight: Griffin left Sunday's game with an injury to his left knee, which is not the one he hurt last season, but it was a precautionary move. he could have a big game against the Chargers pass defense which is yielding almost 275 ypg through the air.

10/30/2013 4:58:00 PM
Description: Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III (knee) fully participated in Wednesday's practice.
Insight: Griffin left Sunday's game with an injury to his left knee, which is not the one he hurt last season, but it was a precautionary move. Prepare to have him in Week 9 against the Chargers.

10/28/2013 3:30:00 PM
Description: Washington coach Mike Shanahan said QB Robert Griffin III is fine and expects him to practice Wednesday as always.
Insight: Kirk Cousins finished Sunday's game against Denver after a ugly three and a half quarters from RGIII (15-of-30 for 132 yards 1 TD, 2 INTs).

10/27/2013 7:36:00 PM
Description: Redskins QB Robert Griffin III appears to be done for the day after injuring his left knee late in Sunday's game at Denver.
Insight: Kirk Cousins has come on to take his place. Griffin had an absolutely brutal game, committing three turnovers while throwing for a season-low 132 passing yards. Griffin was only being held out as a precaution so he should be back for next week's game against the Chargers.

10/20/2013 6:00:00 PM
Description: Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III finally broke out with 298 yards and two touchdowns through the air and 84 yards on the ground Sunday against the Bears.
Insight: The Redskins have opened up their playbook to include more quarterback runs and Griffin has also been more willing to scramble when plays break down the last two weeks. He has rushed for 161 yards on 20 carries in that span. Fantasy owners should feel confident starting Griffin III as a QB1 in Week 8 at Denver.

Cold10/16/2013 9:53:00 PM
Description: According to the Washington Times, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III thinks he needs to run more to help the team get back into the NFC playoff race. Griffin had his best game on the ground all season Sunday night against Dallas, running for 77 yards on nine carries (he had 72 rushing yards total in the first four games).
Insight: We now have to worry more about RGIII's throwing. After passing for 649 yards with five touchdowns in the first two games, Griffin has just 799 yards, one touchdown and two picks his last three games. The Redskins passing offense looked out of sync Sunday night, with protection schemes breaking down and RGIII failing to show consistent accuracy. He's a risky quarterback option in Week 7 against the Bears.

Cold9/22/2013 6:40:00 PM
Description: Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III had a terrible day in Week 3 against the Lions. He threw for 326 yards, but was picked off and lost a fumble.
Insight: Griffin's two best plays of the day ended up as negatives. He threw what was a 50-plus-yard touchdown to Aldrick Robinson in the fourth quarter to put Washington ahead, but the play was overturned after a review showed that Robinson bobbled the ball. He also finally busted off a big run, gaining 21 yards, but he dove forward without being touched and fumbled the ball when he hit the ground. Griffin has thrown for at least 320 yards in three straight games, but he hasn't been himself at all.

Cold9/18/2013 6:05:00 PM
Description: Clearly, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III hasn't been himself this season. Teammate Pierre Garcon thinks it's because of the knee brace he's been wearing. SOURCE: John Keim, ESPN
Insight: Griffin has thrown for a ton of yards this year but most of them have come in garbage time. Even more troubling is the fact that Griffin has only rushed for 25 yards in his first two contests. When asked about Griffin on a radio appearance, Garcon remarked, "Robert obviously can't run as fast as he did last year because of his knee brace ... I don't know how much it weighs, exactly, but you always think about it when you have it on there." Griffin refuted Garcon's claim, stating, "If teams give us the QB runs, then we'll take it. If they're not giving it to us, then we can't just run those plays." The Redskins will try to avoid starting the season 0-3 Sunday when they host Detroit.

9/15/2013 6:01:00 PM
Description: Redskins QB Robert Griffin III rebounded from a second straight poor first half to finish with 320 yards and three touchdowns Sunday at Green Bay.
Insight: Griffin has thrown for zero first-half touchdowns and five second-half scores through two games. If the Redskins' defense doesn't get things together, Griffin will be able to continue to compile gaudy garbage-time stats.

9/9/2013 10:55:00 PM
Description: Robert Griffin III overcame a dismal first half to finish with 329 yards and two touchdowns Monday in a season-opening loss to Philadelphia.
Insight: Griffin looked tentative at first and his passes weren't crisp at all. It didn't help that his offensive line was committing endless penalties and putting him in awful field position. The light bulb seemed to come on for him in the fourth though as the Redskins trimmed the Eagles lead to six with a minute remaining. Griffin's knee looked fine and he was able to run for 24 yards on five carries.

9/2/2013 4:34:00 PM
Description: According to ProFootballTalk.com, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has confirmed that Robert Griffin III (knee) will start in Week 1 against the Eagles.
Insight: We already knew the quarterback had been cleared by Dr. James Andrews, but Shanahan waited on making the official announcement. Philadelphia has major defensive concerns and likely will be a bottom-five unit this season, so fantasy owners should have no qualms about starting Griffin Monday night.

8/30/2013 4:34:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Trey Wingo, the concerns Dr. James Andrews has about Robert Griffin III are less about the health of his knee and more about how the team plans to use him.
Insight: RGIII tweeted that he was fully cleared to start Week 1 on Thursday, but coach Mike Shanahan said Friday that Dr. Andrews still has a "couple of concerns." Apparently, those concerns are about Washington's plans to run a similar system to last season. Griffin is absolutely worth the risk for fantasy owners regardless of any concerns.

8/28/2013 10:58:00 AM
Description: According to ESPN, Washington QB Robert Griffin III has been named the starter for September 9th's season opener against Philadelphia.
Insight: RG3 was a star in his rookie season (3,200 yards passing, 20 TDs, 5 INTs, 826 yards rushing 7 TDs) and he should be one again in 2013. Griffin III recently said that he is completely recovered from offseason knee surgery.

8/27/2013 8:55:00 PM
Description: Washington QB Robert Griffin III said Tuesday that he felt fully recovered from his knee injury.
Insight: "I would say I'm 100 percent, but you can't put a number on it," RGIII told ESPN 980's Kevin Sheehan. "No one ever knows when they are 100 percent or what percentage they're playing at. The biggest thing is, I'm not below 100 percent." Griffin also said he remains just as fast as he was before tearing multiple ligaments in his right knee. "If I had to run a 40 today at the combine in my underwear, I feel like I could run a 4.3-something."

8/13/2013 9:10:00 PM
Description: While Redskins QB Robert Griffin III has expressed his frustration with being kept out of the preseason, it has long been assumed he would be ready for Week 1. However, a source with knowledge of the situation says that his availability still hasn't been decided, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
Insight: The franchise quarterback has been limited as the team brings him along slowly in his return from torn knee ligaments, but he has said there's "no doubt" he'll play Week 1. However, the source says it's "premature" to talk about Griffin playing Week 1 because the decision ultimately rests with Mike Shanahan.
