Steady4/7/2009 9:42:00 AM
Description: Orlavsky will back up Matt Schaub who has not been the picture of health in his NFL career. Orlavsky could see some time behind center.
Insight: The fifth-year QB will have one similarity from his last job in Detroit - his main receiver will be named Johnson. Orlavsky didn't show much as a starter with the Lions, but maybe the Texans will be a better situation for him. (SportsBuff.com)
3/2/2009 4:05:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky signed with the Texans to back up Matt Schaub, after Houston traded former backup Sage Rosenfels to Minnesota.
Insight: A team's backup quarterback doesn't tend to be of particular noteworthiness to fantasy owners, but Schaub has missed five games in each of his two seasons with Houston. Orlovsky played decently for the Lions when pressed into duty last year, so he should be able to keep Andre Johnson's fantasy value up if/when he steps in for Schaub. (SportsBuff.com)
Cold12/21/2008 5:43:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky was dreadful against the Saints. He was picked twice, threw for no TD's, and finished with 125 yards.
Insight: The Saints aren't really known for their defense, but the Lions make pretty much everyone look good. Orlovsky doesn't look like a future pro, but he doesn't have much help. (SportsBuff.com)
12/21/2008 12:48:00 PM
Description: ESPN's Rachel Nichols reports that Dan Orlovsky is among a group of Lions suffering from the flu today. That would only seem to make Kevin Smith a more attractive option on offense. (SportsBuff.com)
Steady12/14/2008 10:24:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky played quite well in his return to the starting spot. He threw for 233 yards and had a TD (to Calvin Johnson, of course).
Insight: Orlovsky helped keep the Lions in the game against the Colts, but was unable to seal the deal on the Detroit's first win of the season. The Lions may as well let him start the last two games of the season since Daunte Culpepper hopefully isn't a big part of their future plans. (SportsBuff.com)
12/12/2008 2:53:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky was named the Week 15 starter by Coach Rod Marinelli on Thursday. Orlovsky missed the past five games after hurting his right thumb, but it has apparently healed enough to allow him to play again.
Insight: For fantasy owners, the Detroit quarterback situation matters only in the impact it has on Calvin Johnson. Orlovsky connected with Johnson for a touchdown in each of his four starts after taking over for Jon Kitna. (SportsBuff.com)
12/10/2008 11:40:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday due to a thumb injury.
Insight: Orlovsky has missed the last five games with the injury but could be the starter in Week 15 against the Colts with Daunte Culpepper not expected to play. (SportsBuff.com)
Out11/8/2008 11:50:00 AM
Description: Coach Rod Marinelli finally announced on Friday that Orlovsky will miss Sunday's game against Jacksonville. He did not, however, reveal who will start in Orlovsky's place.
Insight: It's silly that Marinelli thinks his team will gain some advantage by keeping the Jags guessing about whether they'll have to defend against Daunte Culpepper or Drew Stanton. If the team really doesn't know yet who will start, there'd be no harm in saying that. As for Orlovsky, we might find out later in the week if he'll be done for the year. (SportsBuff.com)
Questionable11/3/2008 8:41:00 PM
Description: FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer reports that Orlovsky will be out indefinitely with a sprained thumb on his throwing hand. The Detroit Free Press, however, points out that Orlovsky played all of Sunday's game with the injury and reports that the player expects to be on the field in Week 10.
Insight: We'll see what's true as the weekend approaches. At the very least, though, it appears that we can forget about Orlovsky as a potential sleeper against a bad Jacksonville defense. (SportsBuff.com)
Steady11/2/2008 6:00:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky was on his way to a career game against the Bears before reality caught up to him. He threw two second quarter TD's, but ended up with two interceptions and just 28-for-47.
Insight: As long as Calvin Johnson is on the field, Orlovsky has minimal value. I wouldn't start him - ever, but there are some leagues - maybe those that start three QB's (which I have never heard of) in which he could have value. (SportsBuff.com)
Cold10/26/2008 2:58:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky threw for 223 yards and a TD. He has not thrown an interception in the last three games.
Insight: Surely there has to be someone else to start in your league. If you have reached the depths and have to start the Lion QB, you can take heart that he has thrown a TD ball in each of the last three games. That is probably his ceiling. (SportsBuff.com)
10/24/2008 11:05:00 AM
Description: Orlovsky will get the start again in Week 8, at home, against Washington. He has lost one of his weapons, WR Roy Williams, in a trade with Dallas.
Insight: It is hard to imagine Orlovsky being a good choice at quarterback in any format. His ability to get the ball to Calvin Johnson will determine any fantasy worth. (SportsBuff.com)
10/23/2008 11:31:00 AM
Description: Orlovsky continued his struggles this past week and has not looked comfortable.
Insight: Expect his struggles to continue, the only thing that makes him a consideration is the big play ability of Calvin Johnson. (SportsBuff.com)
10/20/2008 12:21:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky was less-than-stellar in his Week 7 start against Houston. He completed 12-of-25 passes for 265 yards and a touchdown but 96 of those yards and the touchdown came on one play in mop-up time.
Insight: Orlovsky is not worth starting in any fantasy format. The Loins host the Redskins in Week 8. (SportsBuff.com)
10/17/2008 12:55:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky was adequate at best in his debut in Week 6 against the Vikings. He needs to realize the he plays in the NFL, not the CFL, and that those end zones are only ten yards deep.
Insight: Orlovsky is a very risky play for this week and any week. The Lions have traded Roy Williams to Dallas and seemed to have resigned themselves to the fact that they are going to have to take it all the way back to square one. Orlovsky is not a part of their long-terms plans. (SportsBuff.com)
Steady10/12/2008 3:42:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky made his first start a rather quiet one. He was 12-for-21 for 150 yards and a TD.
Insight: Despite the talent at receiver for the Lions, it is hard to play anyone on this team. Orlovsky could improve by the end of the season, but I wouldn't want him anywhere near my roster. (SportsBuff.com)
Steady10/5/2008 3:47:00 PM
Description: Orlovsky got his first significant playing time on Sunday. He went 13-for-23 for 97 yards, but had a interception returned for a TD by Charles Tillman.
Insight: The Lions do have excellent receivers, so maybe Orlovsky is the one to use that talent. Jon Kitna does not look like he has much left. The Lions are horrible, so they could take a shot with their young QB. (SportsBuff.com)
