NFL Game Summary - Philadelphia at Cleveland
(Friday, August 24th)
Final Score: Philadelphia 27, Cleveland 10
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Nick Foles threw for 146 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Philadelphia Eagles past the Cleveland Browns, 27-10, in a preseason contest on Friday.
Foles, who got the start while Michael Vick recovers from a rib injury, completed 12-of-19 passes with an interception in the first half.
Brent Celek and Dion Lewis each caught a touchdown pass from Foles, while Brett Brackett caught a TD from Trent Edwards in the third quarter.
Brandon Weeden went 9-for-20 through the air for 117 yards in the start for Cleveland. The 22nd overall pick was sacked three times and fumbled twice, losing one.
These two teams will meet again on Sept. 9 in Week 1 of the upcoming season.
The Browns received the opening kickoff and drove all the way down to the Eagles 2-yard line, but Derek Landri forced a Weeden fumble during a sack and Philadelphia took over the ball at the Cleveland 30.
Two plays later, however, Foles was intercepted by Joe Haden on a deep pass intended for DeSean Jackson, giving the ball back to the Browns at the Philadelphia 9-yard line.
After the teams traded punts, Philadelphia forced the Browns' Montario Hardesty to fumble and Darryl Tapp recovered the ball at the Cleveland 15. Foles capitalized on the favorable field position with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Celek with 4:18 left in the first quarter.
Reggie Hodges' punt was blocked by Keenan Clayton on the Browns' ensuing possession and Philadelphia recovered at the Cleveland three. Two plays later, Foles found Lewis for a two-yard score to give the Eagles a 14-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Alex Henery and Phil Dawson traded 41- and 33-yard field goals, respectively, in the second quarter to make it a 17-3 game at the break as Henery missed a 41-yard kick wide right within the final minute of the half.
The Eagles received the ball at the start of the third quarter and after Edwards had an interception that was returned for a touchdown overturned because of a roughing the passer penalty, Brackett capped a 13-play, 77-yard march with a four-yard touchdown reception.
Cleveland countered with a 15-play, 78-yard drive that stretched into the fourth quarter and ended with Evan Moore's three-yard catch in the corner of the end zone to bring the Browns within 24-10.
Henery's 28-yard kick after Cliff Harris picked off a pass from Seneca Wallace at the Cleveland 21-yard line capped the scoring.
