Falcons add Wilson, Lowery to secondary

Flowery Branch, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Falcons brought a pair of veterans into their defensive backfield mix Tuesday, signing cornerback Josh Wilson and safety Dwight Lowery to undisclosed contracts.

Wilson started 16 games with the Washington Redskins in each of the past three seasons and has made 81 starts over a seven-year NFL career. The 29-year-old amassed personal bests of 93 tackles and two sacks while recording an interception in 2013.

A second-round pick of Seattle in the 2007 draft, Wilson has registered 14 interceptions and returned four for touchdowns over 102 total games with the Seahawks, Baltimore and Washington.

Lowery is coming off an injury-shortened 2013 campaign in which he sustained a season-ending concussion just three games in, while then a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He started 20 games for the Jags over the previous two seasons.

The 28-year-old has started 41-of-68 career games and logged 217 tackles, 10 interceptions, three sacks and 45 passes defensed. Lowery spent his first three NFL seasons with the New York Jets, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2008 draft.

Lowery gives the Falcons an experienced option at free safety, where the club released former starter Thomas DeCoud in March.
