Carroll, Fox at ease heading into Super Bowl

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Pete Carroll and John Fox met the media one last time on Friday and both coaches seemed at ease just a few days before Sunday's Super Bowl showdown.

Both were asked if there was some aspect on the other's team that they wished they had. Fox wouldn't elaborate, saying only that he admires Seattle's secondary, while Carroll said he'd love to have Denver's scoring ability.

"We'd like to have their points," said Carroll with a nod to Fox sitting nearby. "How many did you score, like 800? That would help out our defense."

The coaches shared a microphone as reporters asked questions and were seated with the Lombardi Trophy between them.

"The trophy really does symbolize the ultimate challenge in coaching and our profession," stated Carroll, who will be a head coach in the Super Bowl for the first time.

Fox will coach in his second Super Bowl, having guided Carolina to the contest after the 2003 season. New England captured a 34-31 win over his Panthers in Houston.

"It's the pinnacle for probably everybody who does what we do," said Fox about the Super Bowl. "This is the pinnacle of it. Like different levels football, there's only one happy camper at the end and that's the team that's going to be hoisting that trophy."

Both coaches reflected on mentors. Fox mentioned four-time Super Bowl-winning coach Chuck Noll of Pittsburgh and Carroll commented on Bud Grant, who took the Minnesota Vikings to four Super Bowls without winning any.
