Texans' Cushing done for the season

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing is expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a leg injury during Sunday's game against Kansas City.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Cushing has a fractured fibula and a torn lateral collateral ligament in his left knee. The team announced Monday afternoon that the 2009 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year is scheduled to undergo surgery later in the week.

Cushing, who was leading Houston with 48 tackles this season, was hurt in the third quarter of the Texans' 17-16 loss when Kansas City's Jamaal Charles went low to throw a block on the linebacker.

The fifth-year pro played in just five games last season because of a torn ACL in the same knee.

"It's not how many times you fall down but how many times you get back up," Cushing wrote on his Twitter account after the game. "Life is tough but I'm the toughest SOB it's ever seen. Ill be back."

Cushing had signed a contract extension with the Texans during the offseason, reported to be a six-year deal worth more than $55 million with $21 million guaranteed.
