Cassel to remain Chiefs' starter against Bengals Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Matt Cassel will again start at quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs when the current AFC West cellar-dwellers host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Cassel had been replaced by Brady Quinn as Kansas City's No. 1 signal-caller following an ineffective outing against Baltimore on Oct. 7, but was elevated back into a starting role after Quinn suffered a concussion in a loss to Oakland during Week 8. Kansas City head coach Romeo Crennel said on Wednesday that Quinn has still not yet been cleared to play in a game, meaning Cassel will draw a third straight start for the 1-8 Chiefs. Cassel, Kansas City's regular quarterback since 2009, has struggled all throughout a disappointing season, having completed just 58.6 percent of his passes for 1,703 yards and accounting for 19 turnovers (12 interceptions, 7 fumbles) in eight games (7 starts). The eighth-year veteran was picked off on the second play of overtime in Monday's matchup at Pittsburgh, leading to the deciding field goal in the Steelers' 16-13 win. Cassel hit on just 11-of-26 attempts for 154 yards in the setback, Kansas City's sixth straight defeat. 11/14 16:25:50 ET |
