NCAA Game Summary - South Florida vs. South Carolina

Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Devan Downey accounted for 17 points as he led the South Carolina Gamecocks to a 69-66 win over the South Florida Bulls in the semifinals of the Charleston Classic at Carolina First Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the Gamecocks (4-0) were Dominique Archie and Sam Muldrow with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Muldrow also added six rebounds and six blocked shots in the outing as well.

Augustus Gilchrist scored a game-high 19 points for the Bulls (3-1), followed by Dominique Jones with 17 points, nine rebounds and five steals and Jarrid Famous with 16 points in the losing effort.

Despite missing all eight chances from behind the three-point line in the first half and shooting only 34.4 percent from the floor overall in the frame, USC trailed by just six points at the break, 35-29.

The Gamecocks dialed up the defense in the second half, limiting USF to just eight field goals and allowing South Carolina to squeeze out the three-point win.

USC got away with making only 2-of-17 shots behind the three-point line by forcing 17 turnovers on the night.

Both teams will be back in action on Sunday as South Carolina goes after Miami-Florida and the Bulls challenge UNC-Wilmington.
