Insight: Carolina trailed New York at one point, 5-1, but Chris Terry and Staal scored with under six minutes to go in the third period to cut the deficit in half. The Hurricanes would get no closer. Staal had the goal, three shots on net and was minus-one.

Description: Hurricanes center Eric Staal started training camp at center in between wingers Jeff Skinner and Elias Lindholm according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
Insight: Carolina coach Bill Peters said do not read into the early season combinations, but fantasy owners like what they see so far. Skinner could again lead Carolina in goals and Lindholm has tremendous potential, being the fifth overall pick in the 2014 draft. Expect Staal to lead the team with around 65 points.

Insight: GM Ron Francis said Staal should be ready for training camp. The 29-year-old had just 21 goals, 40 assists and 230 SOG over 79 games in 2013-14 after generating 18 goals, 35 assists and 152 SOG in 48 games during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season.

Insight: It was Staal's first multi-goal game since Jan. 27. The center had 61 points (21 goals, 40 assists) in 79 games this season, his least for a non-lockout season since his rookie year in 2003-04.

Insight: Staal had seven assists in his first 11 games this month. The center has not had a great season by his standards -- 55 points (17 goals) in 68 games. He managed 18 goals and 53 points in 48 games last season and had at least 70 points in seven consecutive seasons before that. With 11 games remaining, Staal will need an extraordinary finish to reach 70 this season.

Description: Carolina center Eric Staal went into the Olympic break with just one point in his last five games, but he scored a goal Tuesday against Buffalo in the Hurricanes' first game back.
Insight: Staal has been very good in all months of the season but he takes his game to a higher level in March and April. In his career, he has generated 176 points over 179 games in those two months, so fantasy owners have that to look forward to.

Insight: His younger brother Jordan scored the game-winner with just under six minutes remaining in the third period. Staal can tie a season-high by extending his points streak to seven games Tuesday against Montreal.

Insight: He'll finish with two penalty minutes in just under ten minutes of ice time. Staal had recorded at least two points in each of his previous two games. Coincidentally, Carolina won both of those contests.

Insight: Staal had just one point in eight games from Oct. 25 to Nov. 12, but he appears to be back on track. It was only a matter of time, as he has been taking his usual three-plus SOG per game but scoring at a lowly .049 clip prior to hitting on two of his four shots over the last two games.

Insight: The center is still taking plenty of shots, getting off 4.0 SOG per game during his scoring drought. He has three goals, eight points, 18 PIM and 49 SOG in 14 games this season. He's an obvious buy-low candidate but also shouldn't be started until he starts producing.
